Separate licence for bus drivers mooted

The Government is planning to introduce a seperate licence for drivers of passenger transport buses to reduce the increasing number of accidents involved in passenger transport buses, Vehicle Regulation, Bus Transport Services, Train Compartments and Motor Car Industry State Minister Dilum Amunugama said.

Accordingly, drivers will not be able to operate passenger transporting buses using their normal heavy vehicle licence hereafter. It will be mandatory for drivers to obtain this new licence in the future.

The State Minister said that drivers will be provided with new licence after subjecting them for the two-week training. The new licence will be formulated by the SLTB with the assistance of the security forces.
