Six thousand unemployed youth to receive lands for cultivation

Six thousand youth are to be provided with lands to grow crops such as vegetables, spices, and fruits as the Government plans to purchase their harvests for export purposes, Kurunegala District Assistant Director of Agriculture S.M. Premadasa told the Daily News.

The youth would also be provided with Rs.125 million through bank loans for the purpose, he added.

The Assistant Director also said that 2,300 gardens for such crops would also be set up at national schools island-wide, while the setting up of 1,000 more herb gardens would also be promoted.

The required saplings and fertiliser would be provided by the Agricultural Ministry, Premadasa said.
