Rear Admiral Sanath Uthpala retired from Naval service yesterday upon completion of his career spanning over 34 years in the Navy.
The outgoing senior officer who celebrated his 55th birthday yesterday received warm wishes from Navy Commander Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne and the Board of Management before he was accorded a Guard of Honour in compliance with time-honoured naval traditions. Thereupon, fellow naval officers made their formal farewells to the retiring senior officer who then took leave from the Navy Headquarters, in a motorcade.
Rear Admiral Sanath Uthpala joined the Sri Lanka Navy in 1986 as an Officer Cadet of the 15th intake. In his distinguished career, the senior officer rendered a prominent service to the organisation holding key appointments such as; Commanding Officer of various ships and establishments, Director Sports, Deputy Area Commander North Western, Western and North Central Naval Commands, Tri Forces Coordinating Officer at Disaster Management Centre and Commandant Volunteer Naval Force.
