Police nab suspects in ‘crucifixion’ case

Police have arrested three persons in connection with the recent torture and ‘crucifixion’ of two people in Balagolla, Kandy, the Police Media Spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana told the Daily News yesterday.

The Police said that during the arrest the police had also recovered a quantity of heroin from the possession of two of the suspects.

The Police Spokesman said that the main suspect, the custodian of a devalaya (Kapuwa) is still at large and the three suspects who had been arrested are those who had aided in abducting the two victims.

An investigation has been launched into the abduction and torture of two persons in connection with an incident of insulting them through Facebook.

It was reported that the victims were taken to the Ampitiya area and nailed to a cross by the custodian and his accomplices. The incident had taken place on June 25.
