New Delhi:
On August 15, India is going to celebrate the 75th anniversary of independence. It has been 75 years since India got independence.
It is difficult to even estimate how many heroes shed their blood and contributed towards liberating the country from the foreign yoke. This day is not only a day to celebrate happiness by being free, but it is also a day to remember the sacrifice of those brave sons. The British ruled our country for a very long time. We were freed from their slavery on August 15, 1947.
But very few people would know that Mahatma Gandhi did not celebrate
independence
. People kept asking him why he was not celebrating independence, but he kept quiet on this matter.
After partition, more than one crore people were moving from Pakistan to India or from India to Pakistan.
Gandhi was trying to stop riots in the name of religion in West Bengal on his own.
When Prafulla Chandra Ghosh, the then Chief Minister of West Bengal, came to meet Gandhiji on August 14, 1947, he asked how would you celebrate independence, but Gandhi remained silent. Many people and other leaders kept asking Gandhi how independence would be celebrated, but his silence did not break. When a British journalist came to interview Gandhi, he said tell the world that Gandhi forgot English.
On the midnight of August 15, 1947, India got independence from the British. It took more than 200 years for India to get independence from the British Raj. On this day i.e. August 15, 1947, the first Prime Minister of the country, Jawaharlal Nehru, hoisted the tricolor at the Red Fort for the first time.
Since then, every year on Independence Day, the Prime Minister of India hoists the national tricolor flag at the Red Fort in Delhi. On this day, along with flag hoisting, various cultural programs are organized all over the country and the brave sons of the country are remembered and bowed down.
