The National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka (NCE) launched the Application and Guidelines for its Export Awards via a virtual ceremony recently.
The Export Awards Ceremony, the flagship event of the Chamber which has been conducted during the past 28 years consecutively since its inception, recognises and rewards the achievements of exporters.
Director Operations of the NCE, Menaka Wanniarachchi said the closing date for applications is September 24 and the chamber will conduct a few awareness sessions on the zoom platform to explain the procedure to fill the application. The awards ceremony is due to be held on December 1 at the Shangri-La hotel, Colombo.
Each year, the Chamber makes improvements to the structure of the Awards scheme and evaluation criteria to accommodate current needs of international trade and also based on the feedback received from past award winners.
President of the Chamber Ravi Jayawardena said the event will be steered on the theme ‘Rise, Rebuild and Regain’ as it is the most appropriate theme in the present context. The Awards this year will be in respect of export performance for 2020. NCE will be introducing the “NCE Challenge Trophy’ for organisations which perform ethical trading practices under Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large categories.
The selection of Award Winners is carried out by an independent and professional panel of judges competent in the various aspects of exports.
Chairman of the panel of judges Dr. Jagath Peiris said the importance of adhering to deadlines as stipulated in submitting applications as it will ease the process of evaluation and selection process. The judges are assisted by a separate ‘Technical Committee’ comprising knowledgeable persons in the technical aspects of exports.
The Chamber engages the services of audit firm Ernst & Young to provide professional inputs to the judges as the Strategic Knowledge Partner of the Chamber.
Chairman of the Events Sub Committee Jayantha Karunaratne outlined the importance of winning an award as it speaks volumes about the products and services of an export enterprise and strengthens its credibility.
