Rs.2,000 allowance insufficient - UNP Gen. Sec

UNP General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara pointed out that Rs.2,000 is insufficient for a family to survive for 10 days of the Quarantine Curfew in view of the skyrocketing prices of essential goods.

He said that the amount of Rs.2,000 is clearly insufficient for a family with four or five members. He added that during the previous lockdown, Rs.5,000 was given for a month, but the prices of essential goods have increased three times by now.

Range Bandara further said that people have to face two deaths; the living struggle and the struggle of the pandemic.

“The Government came to power saying that there will be a huge economic revolution and that they could manage the finances. Now they say they do not have the money to take the country forward. They only know how to deceive citizens,” he added.

He alleged that the Finance Minister has failed to manage the economy. The UNP General Secretary stated that everyone should rally to oust this Government.
