Special operations were carried out by the Community Police over the weekend to trace unvaccinated Colombo residents and direct them to the Sugathadasa Stadium, Police Spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said. He said the assistance of health authorities and the officials of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) were taken for the operation.
He said nearly 5,000 people were brought to the Sugathadasa Stadium for vaccination on Saturday, with the intervention of Community Police units.
An inoculation programme was operative at the Sugathadasa Stadium to vaccinate people aged above 30 years living in Colombo who had not received a single dose of their COVID jab.
Senior DIG Rohana urged the public to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as possible, without hesitation.
