Urgent party leaders’ meeting on Monday; next week’s sittings to be postponed?

Leader of the House Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said on Friday that an urgent party leaders meeting has been summoned in view of the alarming COVID-19 situation in the country.

The meeting would be held in the parliamentary complex on Monday to see whether parliament meetings scheduled for next week could be postponed.

Minister Gunwardena told The Sunday Island that he asked Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena to summon the special party leaders’ meeting.

He said that according to the agreement reached at the previous party leaders meeting, the second sitting week of parliament is scheduled to commence on Tuesday (17) and to continue till Friday (20).
