Jammu and Kashmir:
A junior commissioned officer (JCO) and four soldiers of the Indian Army were killed in a counter-terrorist operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri sector in the Pir Panjal ranges on Monday, informed sources.
The hiding terrorists fired on the search parties that resulted in a fierce gunfight and critical injuries to a JCO officer and four other soldiers. They evacuated to nearest medical facility but succumbed to their injuries.
“Based on intelligence inputs, Indian Army launched a cordon & search operation in villages close to DKG in Surankote jurisdiction of Poonch district of J&K today morning. The encounter with terrorists is going on,” Defence PRO, Jammu, said in a statement.
The encounter with the terrorists was going on and further details are awaited, a defence spokesperson said.
