TNA begins protests with fishermen, farmers

The first in a series of protests by the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) in the North and the East demanding relief for fishermen and farmers began from the Kallapadu beach in Mullaitivu yesterday.

TNA MPs M.A Sumanthiran, S.Sridharan, Rasamanikkam Shanakyan and many others of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) joined a boat parade organized by a large number of fishermen from Mullaitivu to Point Pedro.

The main purpose of this boat protest was to request the government to provide relief to fishermen in the North and the East and to protest against the destruction of Northern fisheries by Indian fishermen. Farmers will protest today (18) in front of every Agrarian Service Centre in the North and East demanding the government to provide fertilizer subsidies as well as other relief.
