Two hacked in drug smuggling warfare

Two youths sustained injuries after a drug smuggler hacked off their arms with a sharp object in Walgama in Bandaragama yesterday, police said.

One boy had both his arms hacked off while the other had one arm hacked. The injured had been inside a three-wheeler parked close to their houses when the attack took place, police said.

It was reported that the injured had not received the support of area residents and they have been hospitalised with police involvement.

The attacker is said to be a drug smuggler who had recently been released from remand custody after being arrested on drug related offences, police said. Several sharp weapons have been discovered inside the three-wheeler by the police.The incident is suspected to be a dispute between two drug smuggling parties. Bandaragama Police is conducting further investigations.
