Srinagar:
At least three terrorists were killed and four security personnel were injured in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar district, the Jammu and Kashmir Police confirmed on Friday.
According to the
Jammu and Kashmir Police
, the encounter started on Thursday evening in the Pantha Chowk area of Srinagar.
The exchange of gunfire between the
terrorists
and the security forces started when a joint team cordoned off the area and launched a search operation on the basis of specific information about the presence of
terrorists
.
As the security forces reached the spot where the terrorists were hiding, they came under heavy fire, which triggered the encounter.
According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, three policemen and a CRPF soldier were injured in the initial firing and were later transferred to a nearby hospital.
The security forces retaliated by killing three terrorists. IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar confirmed that objectionable materials, including weapons and ammunition, had been recovered from the militants.
He also confirmed that one of the slain terrorists was identified as Suhail Ahmed Rather of the terrorist outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
“As was revealed by the Jammu and Kashmir Police earlier, terrorist Suhail was also involved in the Zevan terrorist attack. All the terrorists involved in the Zevan attack have been neutralized,”
