The Polonnaruwa Police have arrested a 34-year old soldier for impersonating a Police Officer in an attempt to marry a woman in Manampitiya.
The suspect had been arrested by the Polonnaruwa Crimes Investigation Unit on Saturday at Seeppukulama in Polonnaruwa. The Police Media Spokesman’s Unit said the suspect was a 34-year-old soldier, a resident of Seeppukulama.
The suspect was found to be in possession of a uniform with the badges of a Chief Inspector of Police, a photograph of him in the Police uniform and two counterfeit Rs.5,000 notes.
The suspect is to be produced before the Polonnaruwa Magistrate’s Court.
Police had recorded statements from the girl involved in the incident and further investigations are being conducted by the Police.
