Coronavirus Pandemic: Hundreds of doctors diagnosed with Covid-19 in Maharashtra

Mumbai:

Amid growing concerns over the rise in Covid-19 cases, 338 resident doctors from various hospitals in Maharashtra have tested positive for coronavirus over the last four days.

Dr. Avinash Dahiphale, President, Maharashtra State Association of Resident Doctors (MARD), said, “In the last four days, a total of 338 resident doctors from various hospitals have tested positive for Covid-19.”

Meanwhile, Maharashtra recorded 36,265 new coronavirus cases, up 36 per cent from the previous day, with 20,181 Covid-19 infections reported in Mumbai alone, while 13 more patients succumbed to the disease, health department officials said. Broke.

The new coronavirus cases include 79 omikron infections, bringing the total number of infected people to 797. With these additional

Covid-19

cases, the number of coronavirus cases in the state rose to 67,93,297, while the death toll rose to 1,41,594.

Earlier in the day, Health Minister Rajesh Tope had said that the state government had not yet considered stopping local trains and banning inter-district travel in Mumbai as the number of hospital admissions was still low.

He ruled out the possibility of a lockdown in the state at this time. Mumbai alone recorded 20,181 Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, a new record for the city and four more deaths.

Civil officials said 107 new coronavirus cases were reported in Mumbai’s slums and densely populated Dharavi area, the highest since the

Covid-19

pandemic began in March 2020.

The previous record of daily

Covid-19

cases in the region was 99, which was recorded on April 8, 2021, during the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic. The state recorded 9,727 more

Covid-19

cases than on Wednesday, when 26,538 infections were reported.

A health department bulletin states that 1,70,429 tests were performed in the last 24 hours, bringing their cumulative number in the state to 6,99,47,436. It states that there are 1,14,847 active

Covid-19

cases in Maharashtra.

Tope and Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Pradeep Vyas met NCP president Sharad Pawar, who is part of the party’s ruling coalition, and discussed the status of the coronavirus pandemic in Maharashtra and the sanctions currently in place.

Tope said there has been no significant increase in hospital admissions in Mumbai and 80 per cent of the city’s hospital beds are still empty.

He said a similar increase in infections was also seen during the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic last year, but this time the demand for medical oxygen and the number of deaths have not increased, which was a positive sign.

The Maharashtra health minister said the new infections were affecting the upper respiratory tract, including the nose and throat, and not the lungs.

In addition, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Bharti Pawar said on Thursday that he had tested positive for coronavirus. Bharti Pawar is a Lok Sabha member from Dindori in Nashik district of Maharashtra. Hemant Godse, a fellow MP from the district, tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday.

On the vaccination campaign against the coronavirus pandemic, the Maharashtra health department said that 13,64,60,096 vaccine doses have been given in the state so far. Out of this 3,16,746 vaccine doses were given to children aged 15-17 years.
