COVID-19 tsunami in US: 1 million new cases reported in single day

New Delhi:

Its COVID-19 tsunami in the United States as the country reported a whopping 1 million new COVID-19 cases. The case tally in the country has now risen over 57 million, and over 826,000 people have died in the nation due to the virus.

The surge in the new COVID-19 cases in the United States on Monday appear alarming as the world continues to bear the brunt of highly mutant Omicron strain of coronavirus.

The number fresh daily cases on Monday was almost double the previous record of 590,000 cases recorded four days ago in the US.

Notably, the cases are alarming and most of them come even as many Americans are relying on tests they are taking at time. This simply suggests that the new cases might be higher than what was being reported as the house test results are not reported to official government authorities.

As per data from Johns Hopkins University, it was expected that the COVID-19  cases will witness a substantial rise this week. About one of every 100 Americans will have been reported as a positive case in just the last week.

Worries and concerns mount as the US is once again witnessing spike in COVID-19 cases. On Tuesday, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will hold a meeting with the White House coronavirus response team and discuss a course of action as Omicron cases are also on rise.

Flights have been cancelled, schools ad offices are closed and hospitals are overwhelmed with COVID-19 patients.
