Death toll in Jharkhand bus & cylinder gas truck accident rises to 16

Ranchi: 

The death toll in Jharkhand road accident has risen to 16. As many as 26 others, who were critically injured when a bus collided head-on with a truck transporting gas cylinders, are undergoing treatment at various hospitals.

Police said the accident on Wednesday morning at Pakur district of Jharkhand occurred due to rash driving and poor visibility because of fog. 

The road accident took place at Paderkola village under the Amrapara police station area.

Earlier in the day, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ajit Kumar Vimal informed that people who have been injured in the accident have been rushed to hospital and their health condition is said to be critical.

He said the accident took place when a speeding truck collided head-on with the bus coming from the other side.

Police said there were many passengers trapped inside the bus who were rescued by dismantling the vehicle with gas-cutters.

No gas cylinders on the truck exploded in the accident, else the casualties would have risen, police added. 

Cops even said the impact of the accident was severe as the front ends of both the heavy vehicles got stuck to each other.
