There has been an important development in the military standoff between India and China Border at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.
Pictures have emerged which depict what has been claimed to a bridge being built over the Pangong Tso by the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China.
Geo-intelligence expert Damien Symon has posted satellite images on his Twitter account of a bridge that he claims is being constructed across a part of the Pangong Tso that falls within Chinese territory.
This bridge connects both banks of the Pangong Tso and gives China the ability to quickly move soldiers and heavy weapons across the lake.
According to the satellite images, the construction work is nearing completion. When completed, the bridge will connect the north and south shores of Pangong So lake.
The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is reportedly building the bridge in its own area. But the distance of the bridge is only a few meters from the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Diplomats say that once the bridge is completed, China will be in a better position to mobilize troops and equipment against India.
So far, according to diplomatic sources, the bridge is being built 8 to 20 kilometers east of the north bank of the Pangong Tso. The bridge is to the east of Khurnak Fort in Rutang County, where a Chinese military camp is located.
Since the India-China conflict erupted in May 2020, China has intensified infrastructure build-up in the region. In addition to the new bridge under construction, they have built roads and landing grounds there.
In the midst of intense tension, the Indian Army occupied the main peak of Mount Kailash in Ladakh last year and is nearing the completion of a new bridge. As a result, the diplomatic community thinks that the conflict between India and China will increase.
Since 2020, 50,000 troops have been deployed in East Ladakh by both India and China. The Indian Army and the PLA are facing each other in several places including Depsang and Demchak. The two countries have also held talks to withdraw troops.
The last few months have seen Chinese aggression in Arunachal Pradesh as well. China has been accused of occupying large swathes of land and building several villages.
