Drunk cops posing as CID officers in Fort remanded

Police Officers at the Colombo Fort Railway Station Police Post yesterday arrested a constable and a driver attached to a VIP Security Division who posed as officers of the Criminal Investigation Department and robbed money from an office assistant of the Finance Ministry at the flyover near the Colombo Fort Railway Station.

The duo were remanded till November 4 by Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage. The Police driver is attached to a VIP Security Division the other arrested suspect is a resident of Davulagala. The constable of the Security Division, dressed as a civilian,along with his assistant, stood near the flyover near the Colombo Fort Railway Station, posing as officers of the Criminal Investigation Department and searched people.

They checked an office assistant of the Finance Ministry, a resident of Mirijjawila, who was on his way to the railway station to travel to Ratmalana after duty. They had taken out the wallet of the office assistant and checked it. After handing the wallet back to him, an office assistant checked his wallet and told them that there was no Rs.8,800 in it. The two of them have moved from the place, telling the office assistant that they don’t know anything. Then, an office assistant rushed to the railway station Police Post and informed the officials about the incident.

The Police officers immediately took action to apprehend two persons said to be from the Criminal Investigation Department and confirmed that they are not officers of the Criminal Investigation Department.Later, the Police Officers also found Rs.8,800 stolen from the office assistant during the inspection.

Two persons who were arrested have been handed over to the Fort Police Station. Fort Police stated that both these suspects were drunk.
