Officers of the Thirukkovil camp of the Special Task Force (STF) of the Police exposed a racket in the Attapalam area of Ninthavur where salt is added to the manure and given to the farmers.
STF investigated and verified that the racketeers had mixed powdered fertilizer with washed salt discarded from the Puttalam saltern and given them to the farmers.
Six suspects who were mixing salt with fertilizer and a stock of salt was found in the raid.
STF suspects that the racket has been carried out for a long period. Police seized 181 bags of fertilizer mixed with salt and a heap of fertilizer adequate for another 500 bags.
Police sealed the store and the suspects are detained in the Ninthavur police station.
