All Heads of public institutions have been strictly instructed by the Treasury to stop organizing various ceremonies, including parties, get-together events, openings, assumption of duties and farewell parties, using public money.
The National Budget Circular undersigned by Treasury Secretary Mahinda Siriwardena has underlined that all Ministries, Departments, Corporations, Companies, State-Owned Enterprises, Statutory Boards, Provincial Councils, Local Government Bodies and State Banks should not expend public money or money earned by those respective institutions for any kind of ceremonies.
The Circular dated November 25 stated that similar instructions had been issued through the previous Circulars dated April 26 and August 8 and 15, but that some institutions have failed to adhere to them.
The Treasury Secretary has advised all Heads of institutions to follow the given instructions to strictly control Government expenditure.
