Army coordinates artificial limbs distribution

Officers of the Security Force Headquarters-Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) coordinated the distribution of artificial limbs to 48 war-affected civilians at a ceremony at Vellamullivaikkal School last week.

The Kandy-based Centre for the Handicapped sponsored the project at a cost of Rs. 2.2 million.

The victims, eligible for receipt of those support devices were selected by the Grama Niladari and community leaders in the area.

Experts and technicians of the Centre for the Handicapped, together with Major General Dampath Fernando, Commander, Security Forces - Mullaitivu were present at the distribution ceremony.

Donors from Kandy during August and November this year at the request of the SFHQ-MLT visited the recipients with the Grama Niladari and selected measurements of the recipients. The SFHQ-MLT in July made a similar gesture and distributed a separate stock of 25 artificial limbs.

Grama Niladari, community leaders relatives of recipients and residents were present.
