Sri Lankan tea prices have gone up in the world market from Rs. 470 to Rs. 600 per kg due to its high quality. Several estate superintendents said the cold climate in November and December had boosted the local tea quality. The high demand for Sri Lanka tea in the world market also contributed towards the increase. A drop in Kenya tea production - a major tea supplier - due to inclement climate there had also helped boost the demand for Sri Lankan tea.
