Northern Provincial Council Chairman C.V.K. Sivagnanam has rejected a page one news story in a Sinhala newspaper on December 10 which said that he proposed to compile a separate national anthem for the Northern Provincial Council.
Sivagnanam in a statement yesterday said this news item was totally false and published with malicious intent.
He said what he actually suggested was that since other provincial councils had their separate anthem, the Northern Provincial Council too should follow suit and compile its own separate anthem.
Sivagnanam’s statement had been copied to the Government Information Director General.
