The Federation of Non Governmental Organizations in the Batticaloa district marked the International Human Rights Day on Saturday. A demonstration from Our lady of Presentation up to Gandhi Park took place highlighting the importance of the day to protect the democracy in the country. The participants asked the government to remove the Prevention of Terrorism Act, (PTA) and the Counter Terrorism Act (CTA), and to ensure the religious rights of minority communities in Sri Lanka. They also demand to ensure justice, truth and reparation for disappeared persons, and expedite the process of transitional justice with the participation of civil society organisations.
They handed over a memorandum to Batticaloa District Human Rights Coordinator M.T.A. Azeez.
