The proposal by Labour and Trade Minister John Seneviratne to adopt and implement a national policy to eliminate child labour in Sri Lanka, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers yesterday.
Sri Lanka agreed to eliminate child labour at Global Child Labour Conference at the Hague, in 2010. There has since been a 50% decrease in use of child labour indicating the ability to eradicate it completely.
