A sand loaded tipper plying on the Wilgamuwa-Mahiyanganaya road crashed into a three wheeler, killing the trishaw driver on the spot on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as Sampath Bandara, 35, a resident of Wilgamuwas- Hebarawa area. The tipper driver who fled later surrendered to the Mahiyanganaya-Giradurukotte Police.
Residents staged a protest against the accident blocking the road.
Wilgamuwa Police later dispersed the protesters.
Wilgamuwa Police are investigating.
