Public will decide on govt if action not taken against bribery and corruption: JHU

The public can take a decision on the good governance government in 2020 or prior to that if the government does not take action against bribery and corruption, Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) national organiser and Western Provincial councillor Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe said.

Addressing the media at the JHU party headquarters in Battaramulla yesterday, he said the JHU was thankful to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe for extending an apology to the people of the north for the destruction of the Jaffna Library during the UNP regime.

He said none of the Tamil leaders have apologised to the Sinhalese people affected by the extremist and terrorist activities.

Warnasinghe said the JHU was glad that Hilary Clinton, Samantha Powel, Nisha Biswal and Jayalalitha Jayaram no longer remained in their posts.

He said the Northern Province Governor needs to look into the rules and regulations being formulated by the Northern Provincial Council against Buddhism and whether they are in accordance with the constitution.

He said the JHU will take action in the future with regard to the issue of constructing Buddhist temples in the Northern Province and added that if the Northern Provincial Council does not take any action, it has to be dissolved.

Warnasinghe added that JHU’s stance is to go for the local government elections under the former electoral system.

He said Minister D.M. Swaminathan should reveal the number of Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims settled in the northern and eastern province.

He also questioned the government stance over the Northern Provincial Council taking decisions violating the constitution.
