SLFP Kalutara District Parliamentarian and former chief organiser of the district, Kumara Welgama said the party needs a new leadership before this year’s elections because party members do not have faith in the present leadership.
He said late S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike, late Srimavo Bandaranaike and Chandrika Bandaranaike held office as Prime Minister and President and faced various obstacles and challenges, but they were genuine leaders and efforts were taken to safeguard the party’s prestige. At present, the members of the SLFP cannot move ahead with the leadership and therefore the SLFP needs a new leadership.
Last week, President Maithripala Sirisena appointed national list MP Mahinda Samarasinghe as the chief organiser of the Kalutara district. He was defeated at the last general election in Agalawatte, but was appointed as the chief organiser of the Panadura electorate, he said.
