Rajitha’s motion to recall arrest warrant withdrawn

Attorney Gunarathne Wanninayake appearing on behalf of former Minister Rajitha Senaratne yesterday withdrew a motion filed before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court, requesting for the warrant issued on Senaratne’s arrest be recalled. Counsel Wanninayake said they withdrew the motion since Senaratne was late to arrive in court.

He filed a motion before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s court yesterday morning to make submissions before court to recall the warrant issued on MP Rajitha Senaratne. On December 24, the Colombo Additional Magistrate Bandara Nelumdeniya issued warrant for the arrest of MP Rajitha Senaratne over the White Van incident.The Additional Magistrate had issued this order pursuant to a request made by the Criminal Investigations Department.

Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris appearing on behalf of the Attorney General had earlier informed court that the Attorney General instructed the CID to obtained a warrant from the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s court for the arrest of Senaratne over the ‘white van abduction media conference’. DSG Dileepa Peiris said the Attorney General instructed the CID to obtain an arrest from courts because the former Minister had filed three anticipatory bail applications before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s court.
