Former Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, the SLPP’s Matara district candidate, addressing an election meeting in Hakmana said that at the upcoming general election the SLPP will get more than 150 seats.
He said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is a leader with farsighted policies who will launch programmes to raise the financial and social conditions of the people, especially the downtrodden who were neglected by the previous regime.
The former minister said that the Yahapalana regime during their tenure of office arrested opposition party members with no clear evidence and followed incorrect procedures in arresting and jailing them.
He added that the COVID pandemic was brought under control by the present regime while many other powerful countries still struggle with it.
