All leaders failed to govern properly - JVP

Over the years, most national leaders the country had, turned their hobbies into policies the nation should follow, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna politburo member, former MP Bimal Ratnayake said.

Ratnayake pointed out that these leaders were more interested in pursuing their hobbies which ultimately resulted in failed projects such as the recent ban on chemical fertilizer.

Ratnayake made these observations at an online interview held yesterday (30).

He said “Leaders should never get policies and hobbies mixed up. If you look back, former President Maithripala Sirisena had such a problem but since he had less power in the government, it was not visible. This government has a Two Thirds majority, thus it has become more obvious. All in all the hobbies have become policies. Then, when they actually fail to implement proper policies, they use all kinds of advertising gimmicks such as boards, cut-outs, decorations, to cover up their mess. All political leaders should realize that their main objective is to create an economy that can feed people. The rest should follow.”

Ratnayake also said, “People have realized that we should be given a chance to rule this country only after going through a drastic economic crisis. That is an unfortunate situation from the people’s part. People have to suffer a lot to come out of this economic crisis. This nation needs to do such sacrifices only because two corrupt political parties ruled this country alternatively. Sadly, most of these governments were elected by the people themselves. So it is important that people realize the importance of implementing proper policies, without just feeling desolated due to the temporary economic hardships.”

Both parties that ruled the country did not follow any systematic-scientific method of governance, Ratnayake said.
